Economist Mahfi Eğilmez shared his expectations regarding the minimum wage in an interview with Ekonomim.com. He stated that his perspective on the minimum wage is straightforward, emphasizing the need to ensure that the purchasing power at the beginning of 2024 remains equivalent to the minimum wage of 17,002 TL.
If the year-end inflation is projected to be 45%, Eğilmez indicated that the minimum wage should be set at 24,652 TL, adding that this is not an increase; rather, it is a restoration of purchasing power to the early 2024 levels.
Highlighting that 2025 will be a more challenging year, he pointed out the ongoing high inflation and noted that fiscal policy is not aligning with monetary policy, which will continue to pressurize the economy in 2025.
