(Transaction costs) These costs arise from the use of price mechanisms and differ from the production costs of goods or services. The unit of analysis here is not the goods or services themselves, but rather the transactions. Costs incurred in the search for labor and raw materials, expenses related to training provided for staff to accurately perform assigned tasks, and costs arising from transactions that create property rights fall under transaction costs. Contracts made with other individuals or institutions and expenses incurred to reach these agreements—such as advertising, research, negotiation, discussions, and transportation costs—are also considered transaction costs. The theoretical foundation regarding transaction costs stems from Ronald Coase’s work titled “The Nature of the Firm.” Coase summarizes these costs as follows: “Costs related to researching price level determinations, negotiating contracts, and the costs arising from reduced flexibility in responding to changing conditions in long-term contracts, along with costs imposed on market transactions but not on intra-firm transactions by government or regulatory authorities, are transaction costs.” (Transaction risk) Refers to the potential impact of exchange rate differences between the domestic currency used for transactions and that of foreign countries, as well as fluctuations in exchange rates, on cash flows.
